Enough Food IF

For the first time since the Make Poverty History campaign have more than 100 charities across the UK joined forces! Watch and sign up to help here.
World changers in the making :) We can end hunger, there is more than enough food for everyone out there. It just needs to be distributed equally.

Let's all play our part in this x

reevaluating things

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”  MLK

I always wonder and think about the things that matter. What exactly they are. What is consistent and what is short term. Most things will be the same my entire life, some are only here for a short time and than they disappear out of my life.
This quote got me thinking again today and I wish we would all speak up more x

something for your weekend

It's been a week of mixed emotions.
Being the good friend that he is, Simon told me to watch two TED talks as I have been struggling to walk out the door the last week.
Enjoy :)

Jonathan Harris: cowbird and humanizing the web

Jonathan Harris: Cowbird And Humanizing The Web from Piers Fawkes on Vimeo. as always via swissmiss :)
I watched this talk this morning and knowing myself, it will accompany me for a while :) I agree with so much he is talking about, mostly with the way we have become copy cats and a massive advertisement for  ourselves rather than just being ourselves.
If you have 40 minutes, I'd recommend you watch it. Thank you Jonathan Harris!

current obsession

eco prints
I wrote about it two weeks ago and there is a post in the making. It is testing my patience but seeing the outcome is immensely gratifying. More later

doing my bit to save the planet
All this time off in between touring and crafting and theatre work, has me read up on everything from diy shampoo to sustainable clothing to plastic free living :) There is a whole lot to learn and put into action. So far the no shampoo experience is working!

The Hunger Games
I've finally jumped on that bandwagon, only years later haha but I finished the first book today and can't wait to get my hands on part two and three. How it is possible that this was written for a much younger audience is beyond me since it's all about murdering teenagers in a horribly dark world. (I cried 30 pages into it for the first time!!! and messaged my friend, who's read all of them, about it only to get that reply: "What I didn't even like it that early on. It will destroy you." - wonderful!)
Might need to read some Jane Austen to feel at peace again.

a world of colour

Jessi Arrington is this colour loving chick who throws a rainbow parade on her birthday. If you follow swissmiss, you've probably come across her or seen her TED talk about wearing nothing new :)
In this little video she talks about creativity and staying true to yourself and it all ends in a parade... could there be anything better?!

Now for her next birthday she wants to throw the world's largest rainbow parade - check out her kickstarter project :) How I wish I lived in NYC and could just join them. I think I'd be dressed head to toe in green! Hooray for colour loving people.

current obsession

Gorgeous and her dress to die for... Can't stop listening to this song!

This pile of fabric is sparking inspiration... Currently trying to make an interactive cushion for Miss K's first birthday. Fun when it turns out that you have everything on hand - very much like my treasure trove :)

Kony 2012

Anybody remember watching the documentary "Invisible Children"? It tore my heart out learning about the kids in northern Uganda and child soldiers and the evil that came in the form of the LRA. Thanks to the Colour Sisterhood and their partnering with Watoto I've been a tiny tiny part in supporting the rescuing of child soldiers. World changers everywhere and God's mighty hand in all of it! You should hear the stories these peoples have to tell, the miracles they see in the midst of all this horror. Unbelievable is an understatement...
Anyway, Invisible Children made another film, to support the arrest of Joseph Kony!
It's a very important topic and honestly it's been way too long (26 years!!!) that Kony has abducted children and turned them into child soldiers. So please watch it, share it and let's get this man arrested and all the kids freed and most importantly taken care of - it's a long way of recovery for those kids.

Watched this TED talk and had to share it. If you have 20 minutes to spare today, please watch his talk on  injustice.
Thank you ever so. Astrid x

new years resolutions

On the last day of the year I sat down to write a list of resolutions for 2012.
I've been doing it for the last couple of years and it's not necessarily things I have to do, but tasks and challenges to inspire me in the year ahead. So much potential that could be unlocked in one year.
My two favourite ones are...
to run a half marathon
to not buy clothing this year - everything needs to be handmade or if necessary thrifted (I draw the line at underwear haha)

Anyone else got any good resolutions for this year??

rooftop green dream

(image by Norman McGrath via DesignSponge)
Doesn't this look like a bit of paradise? A "garden" with the most phenomenal view ever. Feel like this could combine my city girl nature with a growing dream of a garden!
This is nothing compared to Eagle Street farm though - that would be the ultimate dream :)

funny lady Tina Fey

Ever since Mean Girls, I've been a huge Tina Fey fan.
So when 30 Rock came around I was a fan from episode one :) Sadly I hardly ever get to watch it as they don't show it on TV over here and I'm still without the entire DVD collection haha
She was on one of those Authors @ Google things which you can watch here. It's long but totally worth watching. Has anyone read her book, Bossypants, yet? Can't wait to read it!

blog love

My sweet friend Romy, of ringl ringl fame, gave me this

I'm so excited and honoured! You are too cute lady :) so instead of basking in glory haha I really want to pass it forward to:
the lovely Erika of Unsere kleine Farm - she makes really sweet things, opened an online fabric shop and she and her husband have bees, chickens, sheep and lots of other cool animals :)
Anne of old new blue - for inspiring me
and F.B's Diary - it's crazy and fun and just beautiful!
