blueberry picking

 

Ruth is the queen of getting this bunch of besties together and to end the era of EheG she got us all together to go blueberry picking and make jam.
It was a ridiculously hot day and we ventured out to the blueberry field (isn't the scenery amazing). The lady working the booth almost crushed our hopes when she told us that there is nothing left but we can go and get some raspberries haha. We went to the blueberry bushes anyway and took whatever we could find, which turned out to be 2.5kg before heading to the raspberries and filling another bucket. Just in case we didn't find any we had reserved another 2kg from the blueberry lady. The berries she pulled out of the fridge were the best treat we had after the scorching sun beat down on us!
I had to go back to work but the girls were busy bees in the kitchen and made delicious jam. Voila.

I wrote about it two weeks ago and there is a post in the making. It is testing my patience but seeing the outcome is immensely gratifying. More later

doing my bit to save the planet
All this time off in between touring and crafting and theatre work, has me read up on everything from diy shampoo to sustainable clothing to plastic free living :) There is a whole lot to learn and put into action. So far the no shampoo experience is working!

The Hunger Games
I've finally jumped on that bandwagon, only years later haha but I finished the first book today and can't wait to get my hands on part two and three. How it is possible that this was written for a much younger audience is beyond me since it's all about murdering teenagers in a horribly dark world. (I cried 30 pages into it for the first time!!! and messaged my friend, who's read all of them, about it only to get that reply: "What I didn't even like it that early on. It will destroy you." - wonderful!)
Might need to read some Jane Austen to feel at peace again.

grow your own

As I mentioned last week, I'm really looking forward to growing my own salads, tomatoes, etc this year.
It worked out really well last year in London and now that I have a tiny balcony, the sky's the limit. Not quite but I feel like there is a tiny bit more room than on the window sill.

Planting tomatoes in tomato cans worked out really well last year - just transfer them to a bigger container when they get too big - this also doubles as a cute present :)

This always brings back the biblical principal of "seed - time - harvest" - we always want to take away the "time" part, right. Love watching plants grow! If the salad turns out as nice as last years, it will be a delicious summer. Hooray!!

farmers market

For more than 100 years the "Schranne" has been one of the local markets here in Salzburg. Every Thursday, from 5am till lunch time, farmers sell their produce around St Andra church.
I have been wanting to go since I got here and either I had to work or it was raining but today I made it there, finally. Yay!

Bought some pears and beautiful chanterelle (which my house mate Robi transformed into a delicious sauce mmmm). Wish I could go there every week and just shop for food. Where's your local market?
