a scrap fabric diy continued

Last week I made a bag out of recycled fabric, you can look at it here.
Never showed you the finished result though, so here it is :)

packing bags

After four years of living in and out of the suitcase, you would think to have a packing system down. Not this girl! I take less and less stuff every time I go, but than I do want to include things that make me feel at home.  It is never light baggage :)
Anyway things to look forward to in the big city:
friends, new/old house, church, learning a new craft, the river, work, fall, winter, Christmas, etc
I'm so excited to have the opportunity of splitting my year and doing all these things. So blessed and thankful every single day!

one last time on the roof

Before we headed home we finished the summer off with a little party on the roof.
There were a few bottles of wine left over and M decided that she didn't want to have any excess baggage on her way home and we better empty them :)
Fall was upon us, so we bundled up and braved the cold. It was a night filled with many stories, lots of laughter, a very bright moon, some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of working with,  a few bottles of wine, tea lights in paper cups and making sure that we all come back again next summer.

Thanks lovely people, it was epic xx

Steinterrasse

Before I left Salzburg and had to say good bye to all besties there, I had coffee on the rooftop terrace at Hotel Stein with three of them.
If you ever happen to be in the city, you should go and have coffee or drinks. The scenery is stunning, maybe one of the best views the city has to offer.
one very pregnant L sipping cocktails haha not really

and cycling across the bridge, this is what you see. Hard to imagine you're in a city!

Monday morning

Good morning world.
There is so much to tell of what's happened in the last couple days and what's ahead. I've got a couple more days in the homeland before heading back to my second home. So ready to start a fresh season in my life. Nothing like a bit of change to shake things up :)
The nomad life never gets boring.
Anyway I'll be back later with a summer round up. Feels like ages ago, but I haven't gotten around it and enjoyed my time off bloglandia. Right now I'm back in printing mode for some My Glorious shirts and will be catching up with the lovely ringlringl lady for brunch, woohoo.
Have an amazing start this week x

a pasta party

Did I mention that I had an amazing summer?
Going over all the photos I'm laughing and smiling remembering the things we did and all the lovely people who were part of it!
After a lot of hang outs after work, we decided to have a pasta party. It felt like camping as we all brought plates and other things. The joys of the nomad life :)
C cooked amazing food (how good is a simple pasta!) and it was a great group of people sharing a meal. We ended up on the roof to chat until the wee hours. No surprise there.
Why the roof? Because the view is amazing and you can be as loud as you want haha. Fun times.

a scrap fabric diy

There is way too much waste in this world (fashion industry one of its biggest contributors!) and I have stacks of scrap fabric that I really wanted to turn into something. So I decided to make some yarn with it.

Step One
Rip fabric into 1cm wide ribbons
Step Two
Knot all pieces together and roll it up
Step Three
Do whatever you like with it...

  • knit
  • crochet
  • weave
  • braid

the sky is the limit :)
In my case I started crocheting and as I'm a sucker for hand stitching I turned it into a tiny bag (and lined it with more scrap fabric! ha).
It's not quite finished yet, still need to figure out if I want a strap or leave it like a clutch and I really need to find a nice button to fasten it, but I like it already.
Happy crafting everyone.

the day we went surfing - in the alps!

The above picture is still ridiculous to me.
Why would anyone have surf gear when you live about 350km from the nearest beach (Italy) and around 1400km to the closest ocean that actually produces some waves (Atlantic)? Okay I get the wetsuits, there is a lot of kayaking around, but surfboards?
Anyway here we were on the outskirts of Salzburg, on the banks of our beloved Almkanal, mountains in the background and everything :) Two years ago the city built this "standing wave" and it's been in use ever since.
We lucked out when Tom and Josh, two of the guys we worked with at "The Labyrinth", asked us to come along. They've surfed everywhere from Australia to Ireland and were decked  out with extra gear for us! Felix, Christine and Mandi were brave and tried it at once, while I sat with Tina and observed the whole thing, jumping into the cold water to cool off and swim, but eventually I had a go haha
The boys were the greatest coaches you could have asked for, telling you everything step by step, but always pushing you to go a bit further. C was standing on that board as if she'd done it for quite some time, at the end of the day :)

Josh couldn't get enough, even without the wave... doesn't it look like he's on a banana?!

My personal outcome was this haha
First try and I went down knee first and smashed it on some wood. T's comment "You need to fall flat Astrid! and now get back on the board" haha I went in two more times, blood trickling down my leg.
It was bruised so badly that only now, a month later, I can kneel down again :)
Best day ever! Who doesn't like to try new things... Thanks to Tom and Josh, you guys are the best!

My Glorious Germany tour 2012

There will be dates added to the ones shown above, so if they're not in your area be patient.
More info on facebook or on their webpage.
You're welcome :)

Almkanal fun

As someone who loves the water this little canal has become a great friend over the last three summers in Salzburg. It is really old and I have written a bit about its history here.
This year we had a bit of time on our hands compared to last year's madness at the festival, so we rode our bikes there a couple of times, to hang out, jump in and surf (more on that later).
The scenery is ridiculous and the water is the best thing that can happen to you on a hot, hot day. There were plenty this summer! The first time you go in it literally takes your breath away.
A few pics, including the most cheesy night shot - Alpenkitsch :)
